Open houses can be a great way to attract buyers to your home. They’re a chance to show your home off and encourage offers to come your way. Of course, in order for your open house to be as effective as possible, you’ll need to put some work in. So what should you do to make sure your home is ready?
Make Sure People Know
An open house can only be effective if people come to it. They can’t do that if they don’t know about it. Take advantage of the social media platforms you’re on and make some noise about your event. Feel free to invite your neighbors too. Sure, they may not be looking for a home themselves, but they might know people who are. Just as importantly, make sure that people know where your house is. Go heavy on the physical signage so people will be able to find your house easily.
Declutter and Clean
You want to make your home feel comfortable and inviting. If it’s cluttered and dirty, it’s going to be anything but that. Cleaning up can help you sell your home faster. It’s easier for prospective buyers to be able to imagine themselves happily living in your home if they feel comfortable in it to begin with. Give your home a good, thorough deep cleaning in the days leading up to your open house so all you have to do is give it a once over and touch it up a bit the day of.
Make Your Home Smell Nice
The way your home smells will be one of the first things people notice when they first walk through your door. Take steps to make sure that what they smell is something pleasant. That’s part of what all that cleaning is going to help with. Beyond that, you can do things like use air fresheners or diffuse essential oils. Citrusy scents can be uplifting and help create an atmosphere of positivity that can help people feel good when they walk in your home.
Having an open house without preparing your home for it first probably won’t have the effect you’re looking for. You need to make sure your home is presentable and ready to put its best foot forward, figuratively speaking. Just make sure you remember to let people know about it too. It won’t do any good to host an open house that no one comes to.
